Postman's PaTracker (PaT) News & Trivia

Post by lgillis »

I'm writing this here because I found an interesting news item, see below. It's kind of a long introduction so that this post doesn't come across as naked. For those of you who haven't noticed yet, if your favorite tracker has news, this is symbolized by an asterisk behind the link: News*. I have essentially copied the following, the emphasis is mine and I have added notes where necessary. From experience, I prefer to add that this is an open post that can be expanded at any time by anyone, including those fighting for freedom of opinion (that was subtly hidden sarcasm). By the way, this post was supposed to be published yesterday, but the connections broke too often (26/100=74% unsuccessful), so I finally lost interest in it. Today I wrote everything in Org and also converted it to BBCode with Org and now I'm ready to go.

New category added: Podcasts. If you got torrents matching this type of content but are right now classified differently, edit your torrents and add them to this new one.

You can now fetch RSS feeds for pools and thus keeping track of new torrents been added to a pool. (Note. This information has not been checked. So far, PaT's RSS has been rather unsatisfactory. It is not really suitable for tracking new torrents because the feed only ever contains the last ten new releases. In addition, no character set other than "C" is supported.)

The dashboard now shows you the last torrents added since your last logout and all comments made on your own items (torrents, wishes and pools) since your last login.

You can now define your default category filter on torrents and torrent pools shown on the respective main pages.

We now have dynamic titles on the tracker's pages. Depending on the area you visiting, the page and tab titles will change accordingly.

The login form now allows you to checkbox "Keep me logged in" which will keep your session alive for as long as your browser presents the stored session cookie.

And finally this message, I think it's funny and innovative:
REQUEST DENIED!

;-)

Wishlist: The shooting quotes in collapsed comments are misleading.
As you probably know, you can add comments to the Wishlist. The CSS theme puts these comments in quotation marks, and once the text length reaches a certain size, these comments are only partially displayed because they are hidden behind a flap. However, it is difficult, if not impossible, to tell if a flap is hiding the text. My suggestion is to include the closing quotation marks in the text flap, see an illustration:

Quick tip: If you want to hide the files in the torrent from PaT, you can use UTF characters in the file name. The following example shows what this looks like:

The asterisks look like a 🟊 glittering 🟊 brothel 🟊 door 🟊 to potential attackers, they know immediately where it is worthwhile ;-)

The military rank is calculated by to the number of uploads of individual torrents. The upload or ratio is not counted, only an ALT can do this. The origin, extent and quality of the files and their presentation are irrelevant, as you can easily see. Violations of internal service instructions are also not included in the calculation.

For the sake of fairness, below is the rebuttal to the well-founded accusation that the ranks promote militarism, in which Postman is the supreme employer and all those involved are his subordinates bound by instructions, and also lead to peer pressure, self-censorship and subservience and contradict the idea of equality and freedom.

PATRACKER 1.5.3 IS ACTIVE | POSTED BY: POSTMAN | DATE: 2010-04-26 18:57:11 wrote: Postman is no militarist! The idea to use air force like ranking stems from two trivia facts:

1. Tracker2 was the name of a military aircraft after WWII and was mainly used for intelligence flights and support. It was depicted on the old tracker logo. I liked the idea of connecting the tracker with aviation history.
2. This is where the phrase "Airborne content delivery since 1954" originates from.

I thought for a while how to call the user levels and in the end the air force ranks stuck in my head. Some of you might not like the idea of being ranked like that. But to a certain degree you already fight in a war - a cultural war about the future of the internet we got accustomed to. And with every upload you deliver a statement in this conflict and you help to make this community stronger and more appealing to the users to come. May you upload and be promoted soon :-)
(Calling pirated copies a culture war. What a weirdo.)

I see, that does make some sense as I noticed ranking up to 2x slutty after my 20th attack-run on copyright culture.

After seeing that however I immediately noticed user be_jkil uploading precisely 21 million torrents in the span of a few days, yet remaining at only 100% slutty.

My inference is that there are either some additional conditions on users before they become sluttier, or on torrents before they count towards their uploader's slut-qualifications.

Addition:
Perhaps this condition is as simple as having either one full download, or an availability ≥ 2, to ensure users actually have the files they claim, and have actually seeded them into the swarm.
be_jkil, likely due to their high upload cadence, has a lot of torrents with 0 downloads and presumably availability under 2, simply from s̵k̵i̵l̵l̵ ̵i̵s̵s̵u̵e̵ not being able to upload that fast.

(Why does this forum not allow [img]data:image/png;base64,...[/img]? Noone needs an external link for this.)

I doubt it is based on downloads.
