Should I Max Out My Tunnel Quantities?

I'm using biglybt, but I don't know how many in/out tunnel quantities to put (i have them at 6 right now). Is there an optimal number to put them at or should i max them out?

BBt has installed an automatic system which, after consultation with zzz, is based on empirical values. If there are only a few remote stations, the number of tunnels remains low. As the number of remote stations increases, more tunnels are added.
When setting by hand, it depends on what you intend to do with it. Good empirical values are in the range of three to six tunnels. If speed is more important to you than the supposed anonymity, reducing the tunnel length from three to two or one hop would be the right way to go. Of course, this requires basic knowledge of how tunnels and hops interact. Do you have this knowledge?

By the way, one connection to a peer uses only one pair of tunnels, so if your torrent client makes only one or two connections, you don't need many tunnels. Many tunnels are only beneficial when you make lots of connections (probably on popular torrents, like >10 peers).
Also, you can increase only one half of the tunnels: if you primarily seed to many people, make more outbound tunnels, if you primarily download, increase inbound tunnels. BUT this applies only if you are on popular torrents, or on simply many torrents.
I'm not familiar with BiglyBT, but if it's done in collaboration with zzz (the main i2p developer, probably), it's probably best left as default, unless you have lots of knowledge.

Yes I do know about hops but prefer to keep them at 3. I am curious though about the automated system, I have an option tick that says "Automatically adjust tunnel quantities based on load" is this the option? If so all my messing around was for nothing lol

Thanks for the information, I do seed alot, though I will probably leave it as default

Yes exactly. See also the illustration:

Ohhh that probably explains why I wasn't seeing any results lol. Thanks for the help!

You can choose whichever you are comfortable with
Tunnel quantities = 3
Tunnels Hops = 1
Tunnel quantities = 3
Tunnels Hops = 2
Tunnel quantities = 3
Tunnels Hops = 3
Anything apart from these is a complete waste of time and resources of your PC.
